Michigan House Stands Up For Home Care
The Michigan House announced their budget plan this week which would completely do away with the home care cuts passed by the Senate last month. This new budget reflects the well known fact that cutting home care is not a feasible solution to Michigan's economic crisis.
Lawmakers in the House recognized that home care saves the state millions in Medicaid dollars every year, by keeping people out of costly nursing homes, as shown in a recent study by the Anderson Economic Group.
Thats why we need to protect the Home Help program. Not only does it cost the state four times as much to fund nursing home care, but home care also allows people to retain their independence and dignity in the comfort of their own homes.
With the prospect of hundreds of thousands of Baby Boomers moving into our long-term care system, this is a time when we need to increase funding of programs like Home Help to ensure all Michiganders can have access to affordable, quality care when they need it.

And our income (her social security & my home care payment)restricts me
from taking care of our personal needs.Every month I'm forced to make the difficult
choice to either pay our monthly bills in full or the minimum balance,in order to
be able to pay for rx's or possibly go to the dr,(myself)for a regular visit.Which I
have not had within the time I've cared for her.I have become deficient about
the smallest things in life that are essential.I Thank God for my health.
There should be a way for the politicians in office,to delve the issue and come
up with a legitimate plan to provide health care for home care providers.
Medicaid should be atleast provided, considering the services of Mi FIA.
The millions saved in MI because of HHC,verses the nursing homes should
be used for the quality of life for those workers..
Not to"rob peter to pay paul".Iam 29 years of age,and would never consider
placing my family in the care of a nursing home. With the countless problems
of mis-treatment,agressive behavior of staff, and not to mention the appropriation
of seniors entire income without validity..Her care,as most seniors require
time and attention that can't be divided by a eight hour work day.Which restains me
from making a sufficient income to have a quality of life without worry.I thought I was in America. What has America come to?When the young is willing to care for the elderly
in graditude for paving the way for Our Today? I want to thank you in advance,
for your attention. And hope to see a greater respect for the quality of life of those
who are caring for those who can't take care of themselves alone anymore...THANK YOU
Any response will be greatly........ Quanada Real
